Read The Bible In A Year

January 2, 2009

bibleOne of my goals for 2009 is to read the Bible in its entirety. Over the course of many years and Bible college, I have read the entire Bible, but I have never done so with the intention of doing so in a year.

“Open thou mine eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law” Ps. 119:18

I hope not only to learn amazing things, but to also become closer to the Lord and to work on my personal relationship with Him.  However starting a daily Bible reading routine is not an easy thing to do.  Starting is always easy for me.  The problem I have is that it becomes mechanical, something I have to do.  I lose the joy and fellowship with the Lord that it brings.

I hope by posting my progress and what I learn from my reading it will help me to truly read the Word and get insight from it and not just read it to say I did.

Since January 1 fell on a Thursday this year, I am only going to post my reading schedule through Saturday and then on Sunday I will post the full week’s reading schedule.

Thursday - Gen. 1-3, Matt. 1

Friday - Gen. 4-6, Matt. 2

Saturday - Gen 7-9, Matt 3

So far so good.  I have read both Thursday’s and Friday’s selections and am looking forward to reading Saturday’s as well.

Have any of you ever read the Bible in a year?  Did you find it rewarding? Hard?

I managed to read the entire Bible in a semester which is about 4 months. It was for a class and it was rough…especially making it through the chapters of who begat who. Good luck!

My church started a program in 1992. “Read the Bible through in 92″ Each year we restarted in Genesis at January or you could request a 2 year schedule. I did that up until pregnancies and children came.

This year I’m trying to stay with the schedule but if I miss I day I’m not making it up I’m just starting with the day I’m on.

I found it rewarding and hard. :)
