Another Change

Yes I once again changed my theme.  Although I liked the previous theme, I just felt it wasn’t me and since this blog is about me, I thought my theme should reflect whom I am.  I will probably change things around, add stuff, remove items, but I think the layout and basic theme will stay the same for a while.

If you have any problems viewing the blog, or if it is slow to load for you, please let me know.  Thanks.

Everyday Kindness
Everyday Kindness Award

I was given this great award by Jacki at Moving at the Speed of Life. If you have not visited her blog, go check it out. She has also started a book review blog called the Book Nook and has asked that I be a reviewer. So if you are an avid book reader or not, so check out the Book Nook too.

According to Jacki, this what the award is about:

It is a good reminder of what blogging is all about. Our blogs are an extension of our individual personalities. A place to unleash our inner comedienne, showcase our creative side, to get something off our chest, or to share family news. And, it is a place to encourage each other. Because life is pretty darn discouraging sometimes.

I am passing this award along to two blogs I enjoy:

  • Jan at Just a Mom, That’s More Than Enough because she has been an inspiration throughout my weight loss journey; and to
  • Christine at Are We There Yet Mom? because her blog is so fun to read and she features and supports Work at Home Moms. Work at home moms are an inspiration to me because they balance work and family at the same time every hour of every day.

Moving Company or DIY?

Moving Tools As I have mentioned a couple times in the recent past we will be moving out of state in a couple of months. We don’t know where yet, just that it will be Texas or Oklahoma most likely.

To move from Baltimore, MD to Dallas, TX is about 1370 miles and from Baltimore, MD to Oklahoma City, OK is 1340 miles. So whichever destination we end up at, it is going to be a long move.

So I am wondering which is the best option. Hiring a moving company or renting a truck and move everything ourselves? Has anyone hired a moving company before? Did you have problems with the company? What are the pros and cons?

I did find one website, Moving Orbit, that allows you to get quotes from moving companies and for a truck rental. I have requested a quote but haven’t received it yet but I’m interested to see the price differences.

No Caffeine for Mommies-To-Be

There is an article on CNN that states a recent study being published in the Monday’s Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology concluded that pregnant women who had 200mg of caffeine a day was twice as likely to have a miscarriage as oppose to a pregnant women who did not have any caffeine.

200mg. That is one to two cups of coffee, two to three cups of tea, one to three energy drinks, or about five cans of soda.

The study follows 1,063 pregnant women. The miscarriage rate for women who had no caffeine was 12.5%. However, the miscarriage rate for rate who had 200mg of caffeine a day was 25.5%. That is about 271 women who miscarried assumingly because they had more than 200mg of caffeine a day. That seems like a lot me.

I didn’t drink caffeine while pregnant. I was so scared of doing anything wrong during my first pregnancy that I was probably overcautious and still ended up having an emergency c-section at 32 weeks for a reason I could not have prevented.

I have some questions about this study though and guess I will have try to read the study when it is published. Some of the questions that stick out to me are: What were the women’s health situation before they became pregnant? Were they smokers? Where they drinkers? Could there have been other issues that caused the miscarriages?

If you get a chance, read the article and let me know what you think.
