Aloha Friday - Scariest Moment

My question this week:

If you are a parent, what has been your scariest moment in reagrds to the health and safty of your child/children?

My answer:

I guess mine would be when I was pregnant with my first child, now a 3 year old, I had a placenta abruption.  Those were the scariest moments of my life.  I was bleeding horribly and all I could think was that something was wrong with my baby.  The doctors ending up doing an emergency c-section at 32 weeks and although my son was premature, he was prefect.  Afterwards I thanked my husband for everything.  He was my rock through the entire ordeal.  He just said some had to stay calm because I was  hysterical.   I have been blessed that nothing has happen to either of my children thus far in life, besides the occasional bump, scratch, and bruise.

Great question. I’m glad the incident you mention ended well!

Thankfully there have not been many harrowing instances in the lives of my children.

One time I do recall well is when my then 8 year old son decided to crawl into one of those big wooden cube maze things. This outdoor structure required crawling on hands and knees and even lowering yourself to lower levels as you worked your way out. Well, my son was pretty chubby at the time and when it came time to lower himself he became stuck. It was impossible to go back. I couldn’t fit in the thing. Thankfully something managed to give and he did make the bend (while I was looking for tools to dismantle the thing). It was pretty traumatizing.

Within the last couple of years (he is 17 now) he has allowed the incident to be spoken of in public. :)

When my daughter was 5 years old she was in the hospital for 5 weeks. She was diagnosed with a noncurable neurological disease, Myasthenia Gravis. For a bit we didn’t know what was wrong with her or if she would live.

Thanks for visitng my Aloha. Pregnancy scares are traumatic - I’m glad everything worked out for you. I went into early labor with my first son, at 29 weeks. It turns out I have fibroid tumors in my uterus and they were suddenly in such a position as to prompt labor. Fortunately, the doctors were able to stop my labor, and the little guy ended up being born one day before his due date. Praise God!

Both my children are adopted from Russia. In 2000 the 9-11 episode left us moments from international flight to go get him. WE were grounded not knowing if I would ever get to go see the son I had waited 20 years for. We were some of the first Americans allowed into Russia in the early December. We were 500 miles as the crow fly from the Northern Afghanistan boarder. It was three weeks after the special forces entered Afghanistan and secured the boarder.
My son is almost 7 years old now. We face an ongoing screening for Ushers Syndrome. It is a condition of total blindness and deafness in adolescence. I had to take his back to hospital this week to rule out early symptoms. This is a hard thing for I have to keep a close watch out for early systems.
He is such a joy!

Since we lost our first daughter at 36 weeks gestation, our 2nd pregnancy was filled with anxiety. At about 20 weeks, we were at the ob/gyn’s office listening to our daughter’s heartbeat when it suddenly slowed, then returned to normal. We were petrified that we would lose our 2nd baby. And the “business as usual” doc was so matter of fact about it, saying there was nothing we could do at 20 weeks if something was wrong. She was so uncaring! Thankfully, we didn’t have to see that doc again, and everything turned out great with our daughter.

I almost did not post until I saw Heather’s comment. We, also lost our daughter (31 weeks gestation) after only 16 1/2 hours of life and after I had spent 6 weeks in the hospital on bed rest. I then had a miscarriage with my second pregnancy. The third is still to come. So, pretty much every part of pregnancy is stressful and scary for me. I am so glad your outcome was better! Hopefully, we will have a better outcome soon, also. :)

It must have been a very scary situation for you. I’m glad that no harm came to your child. I understand how important it is to have the support of our loved ones during trying times.

When I was pregnant, I experienced some spotting and was hospitalized because of dehydration. I was very scared that I might lose my baby but God is kind and everything went well. My son is now 4 years old.

just recently, my baby got sick! it has made me really worried but not so scared. my hubby and i help each other take care of our sick baby.

i think, what really scared me about being a parent is not being able to be a parent. we waited quite long before i got pregnant. the wait was scary in a sense.

Well, since by baby is 38 years old, heehee, it was when she was 18. She was out with her friends and was late coming home. Then later and later and later.

It wasn’t like her not to call, although we didn’t have cell phones then. I had all the numbers to her friends, so I started calling them. I didn’t care that it was 2:00am.

FINALLY, we got a call from her. Wheww BUT she had been a bad girl and shouldn’t be driving. Bob and I quickly went to get her. Thank God she was ok.

I am so grateful for God’s loving care. :)
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog.

Hi Courtney, everyone.

Thanks so much for stopping by my Aloha Friday post. Seeing the topic of yours, I was tempted not to post after reading some of the comments here. I have not suffered the agony that some of you have, and my heart goes out to you. Truly, god bless.

My son is only 4 so I have many years ahead where I am sure his precociousness is going to turn me grey (as if I need the help). But our scariest incident so far is when he hid from me at a play park that is within a large open air shopping centre. I was watching him and he was chasing his friend and then my girlfriend asked me something, I turned around and then back and he was gone. At first I wasn’t too worried, then his friend told me he didn’t know where he’d gone, then I noticed someone had opened the gate to the main complex and my heart stopped. I had half the parents running around the area screaming my son’s name while the little imp hid in a shop. When he was found, I was torn between wanting to slap him for the firs time and cuddle him until he suffocated. I held him and bawled. The longest 3 minutes of my life.

My daughter fell into a 9′ pool. I saw her on the bottom and I had to jump in to save her. However, I don’t swim.
